Researchers from the Hastings Center and Yale Fertility Center encouraged lawmakers in the United States to enact policy changes for IVF, according to a study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility.
The researchers recommended increasing education efforts to inform patients of the risks associated with multiple births, expanding insurance coverage to include IVF cycles, and urging fertility centers to use single embryo transfer (SET) during IVF. They also noted controlled ovarian stimulation, a separate fertility treatment from IVF, should be limited because it significantly increases the likelihood of multiple births.
While using SET during IVF is recommended for women under 35 years by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), they comprised only 42.7% of transfers in fertility centers who report their 2016 data to the CDC and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), according to a recent CDC report.
We are excited that Delaware leads the nation in single embryo transfer! The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC)’s 2016 data revealed that 3 out of 4 IVF babies from Delaware were RADfertility babies! We are so proud of this accomplishment as 96.7% of our transfers in 2016 were single embryo transfer.

“Multiple births add risks to both mother and baby.”
In this video interview, Dr. Adrienne Neithardt explains what complications can occur during pregnancy for both mother and baby during multiple births, and why practicing single embryo transfer (SET) at RADfertility helps significantly reduce those complications.
